What is mediation?

Mediation is a structured, voluntary process used to resolve a conflict by constructive means, whereby neutral third parties assist the disputing parties throughout the conflict resolution process. The disputing parties, who are looking to find a constructive means of resolving the conflict, draw up their own solutions with the aim of reaching a mutual agreement that satisfies their requirements and interests.

The person from the Arbitration Service taking part in the mediation will have received corresponding training and takes a neutral, independent stance. This person does not make autonomous decisions regarding the conflict, rather, he or she is merely responsible for the procedure.
